Dear reader,
This week was scheduled to be the last week I cover one of Jonathan Edwards’ resolutions, adapting it into my own language and applying it to my own spiritual journey for 2024. For this final post, I selected his fifth resolution: “Resolved, never to lose one moment of time; but improve it the most profitable way I possibly can.”
The day I scheduled this to be my next post, I (perhaps ironically?) fell pretty ill. I spent most of the past week bedridden, unable to eat, with some pretty nasty cold/flu symptoms that remain persistent.
If you’ve known me for a while, or even if you’ve just been following along, you probably already know that despite being sick, I try to be productive. I do this to such a degree that I sometimes laugh at myself: This weekend, for example, even when all I could do was sit on the couch and watch TV, I watched a bunch of documentaries so I could still be learning… When I got too tired to keep my eyes open, I switched it to a live feed of birds and squirrels, so my cat could have a turn being active and entertained. In the meantime, I turned on an audiobook and closed my eyes. In a way, it was kind of nice to just absorb whatever content I wanted whenever I had energy for it.
Despite being sick, I also put quite a bit of pressure on myself to sit down and muster up the energy to write this post on time. After all, posts are to come out on Wednesdays, and I should seamlessly stick to that! “Let your yes be yes,” right? (Matthew 5:37)
Well, yes. But this week, there’s something very simple I think I need to remind myself about making my time the most profitable I possibly can: Sometimes that means I need to rest.
In fact, incorporating rest was always meant to be the focus of this post. And it will be, when I’m (Lord willing) rested and healthy enough to return to it…
Thank you for your patience! Stay healthy. Listen to your warning lights, and rest when you need it. In the meantime, enjoy this hymn I love and took this week’s title from:
Love,
Bears
